As we celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 16, we hope that the presence of flags at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home will be a welcomed sight for the residents there.
During this difficult time of quarantine for these veterans, we felt that the flags were needed now more than ever to express our love and appreciation to those that have served our country so well. We also appreciate the healthcare professionals that take every possible precaution to protect our vets. Three hundred flags will fly Friday, May 15 through Saturday May 16. The flags are situated both in front of the building and in the back courtyards to be viewed by the residents from inside the different pods and from each of their individual rooms.
We also asked for public help to write notes of gratitude and encouragement to the vets and the healthcare workers. We will be delivering these notes to the administration, who will distribute to the recipients.
The Utah Department of Veterans Affairs is also sponsoring a campaign to rally behind our veterans who are isolated right now. Please visit https://veterans.utah.gov/happiness to learn how you can participate in the #happinessforheroes campaign!
