End of Watch – Officer Nathan Lyday

May 28, 2020-Officer Nathan Lyday was killed in the line of duty as he responded to a domestic violence call in Ogden.

Officer Lyday was a young an promising law enforcement officer that was described as a “son of Ogden”. Having grown up in Ogden, attending school and even college there, his roots to the community ran deep. His love for the community was evident in his actions and words. As the community learned of this tragic loss of life, many groups and service organizations came together to honor him, thank him for his service and support his family and fellow officers.

Follow the Flag was honored to help coordinate many requests and help organize service groups in these efforts. For several weeks, flags adorned many places in Ogden that were of significance to Officer Lyday. Homes in his neighborhood were given blue lights courtesy of Home Depot to put on their front porches to show support for the family. Many special moments were shared and miracles occurred that helped the service of Officer Lyday possible.

It was our honor to be asked to help with the procession and funeral. In a show of support, we rolled out Big Betsy on the North fence of Ogden’s Raptor Stadium. The weather broke at just the right time to allow the unfurling. We will never forget that morning as four of our giant American flags flew simultaneously in honor of Officer Lyday.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the many service organizations that came together to help honor Officer Lyday with us.
